Slang and Jargon Souces

Jargon is special words or expressions that are used by a particular profession or group and are difficult for others to understand.  It is the specialized language of a specific group, trade, or profession, often using terms that are difficult for outsiders to understand. It can be used for efficiency within the group but may seem vague or pretentious to others. Examples include “sweating the pipes” in plumbing, “blue peter” in maritime terms, “footers” in construction, and “click-throughs” in internet advertising.

The seven categories of jargon are medical terminology, abbreviations/acronyms, medical vernacular, unnecessary synonyms, medicalized English, euphemism jargon, and judgmental jargon.

Examples of slang include modern terms like “lit” (exciting), “no cap” (no lie), “GOAT” (greatest of all time), “sus” (suspicious), and “vibe” (the atmosphere of a place or person). More traditional slang words include “cool,” “dude,” and “hang out,” while historical slang can feature terms like “cat’s pajamas” or “bee’s knees”.
