  • Association of British Science Writers – We are a membership organisation for media professionals who cover science, medicine, environment, mathematics, engineering and technology. We provide professional training, development and networking for journalists and writers at all career stages.
  • CASW-Council for the Advancement of Science Writing – The Council for the Advancement of Science Writing is committed to improving the quantity and quality of science news reaching the public.
  • Canadian Science Writers’ Association: A National Alliance of Science Communicators in All Media – Science Writers & Communicators of Canada (SWCC) was founded in 1970 as the Canadian Science Writers’ Association by a small group of science and medical reporters who recognized their role in helping other Canadians better understand rapid changes occurring in our world.
  • Locus Magazine – Locus magazine was founded in 1968 in New York by Charles N. Brown, Ed Meskys, and Dave Vanderwerf as a one-page newszine to promote the “Boston in ’71” Worldcon bid. Two trial issues were sent to various fans and professionals to drum up subscriptions before issue #1 was mailed. Vanderwerf left after issue #4, and Meskys after #11, but Charles decided to keep the ‘zine going with the help of first wife Marsha Brown (who was co-editor from 1968-69), and later second wife Dena Brown (who co-edited from 1970-77). Issues were published once or twice a month, as the news merited.
  • National Association of Science Writers – The National Association of Science Writers is a community of journalists, authors, editors, producers, institutional communicators, students and people who write and produce material intended to inform the public about science, health, engineering, and technology. NASW promotes the professional interests of science writers nationally and globally, plays an active role in supporting efforts to ensure writers are paid for their work, and advocates for copyright protections for writers.

  • The D.C. Science Writers Association – With around 400 members, DCSWA is the largest independent regional science writing association in the country. Founded in 1987, its members include writers and editors from nearly all the major news outlets in the Washington, D.C. area, public information officers from agencies and institutions, and freelancers.
